Every job is different. Room size, number of affected areas, and tack strip condition all affect the scope of work. We provide a firm, no-obligation quote after assessing the rooms in person — before any stretching begins.

Warning Signs

Does Your Carpet Need Stretching?

These are the most common indicators that your carpet has lost tension and needs professional re-stretching.

Visible Ripples or Waves

Carpet that bunches, waves, or forms ridges is under-tensioned and needs stretching.

Buckles Near Doorways

Doorway transitions are common failure points where carpet lifts and folds over time.

Trip Hazards

Any raised section of carpet is a fall risk — particularly for children and seniors.

Loose Carpet at Edges

Carpet pulling away from tack strips along walls indicates the stretch has failed.

Carpet Shifting When Walked On

If your carpet moves underfoot, the tension has been lost and re-stretching is needed.

Pre-Sale Inspection Concern

Rippled carpet is one of the most common buyer objections during a home showing.

Our Process

How We Stretch Your Carpet

A proper carpet stretch requires the right equipment and the right technique. We use a commercial-grade power stretcher on every job — the only tool that delivers a permanent result.

01
Full Room Assessment

We walk the room and identify every area of looseness, rippling, and failed tack strip anchoring before any work begins. This ensures a complete stretch in a single visit.

02
On-Site Quote

We provide a firm quote after assessing the rooms in person. The scope depends on room size, the number of areas affected, and the condition of the tack strips.

03
Furniture Movement

We move furniture as needed to access the full carpet area. We take care with all furnishings and return everything to its original position when complete.

04
Power Stretching

Using a commercial-grade power stretcher, we re-tension the carpet from wall to wall in both directions. A power stretcher provides significantly more force than a knee kicker — resulting in a tight, permanent stretch.

05
Tack Strip Re-anchoring & Final Walk-Through

We re-secure carpet to all tack strips, trim as needed, then walk the room with you to confirm every ripple is gone before we leave.

Power Stretcher vs. Knee Kicker

Power Stretcher
  • Provides 10–20x more tension than a knee kicker
  • Re-tensions carpet from wall to wall simultaneously
  • Permanent result — stretch holds for years
  • Industry standard for professional carpet installation
  • The correct tool for re-stretching existing carpet
Knee Kicker
  • Relies on leg force — limited tension
  • Can only work small sections at a time
  • Temporary results — ripples return within months
  • Appropriate only for small tucking and trim work
  • Not sufficient for eliminating established ripples

Common Questions

Carpet Stretching FAQ

Why can't I get a price before you arrive?

The cost depends on how many rooms need stretching, the size of each room, how badly the carpet has lost tension, and the condition of the tack strips. We provide a firm, no-obligation quote after walking through the affected areas in person — before any work begins.

How long does carpet stretching last?

A proper power stretch should last the remaining life of the carpet — typically 5 to 15 years depending on the carpet's condition and age. The key is using a commercial-grade power stretcher rather than a knee kicker. A knee kicker stretch may begin to loosen again within a few months.

Is it better to stretch or replace rippled carpet?

If the carpet is otherwise in good condition — no widespread staining, no structural backing damage, adequate remaining pile height — re-stretching is almost always the right answer. Stretching costs a small fraction of replacement and the result is a carpet that looks and feels new again.

Do I need to move my furniture before the appointment?

Our technicians move furniture as part of the service. We take care with all furnishings and return everything to its original position when complete. Very large or extremely heavy items may require prior arrangement — let us know when you schedule.

Can you stretch carpet on stairs?

Yes. Stair carpet can be re-stretched and re-anchored at each tread. Stairs that have shifted, loosened, or begun to show wrinkles at the nose of each step are common and fully addressable with professional stretching.
